 Club Notes - Grand Final

Wow! This year certainly had flown! It has been another cracking year of NWFL football also! It has been great to see a much more even competition with some weeks almost impossible to tip, much like the AFL which is very exciting for our great league and we hope it can stay like this for years to come!

We are absolutely stoked to have two teams here today representing our fabulous small club! Success is something very , very foreign to us and we are hoping that can now be a thing of the past as it has been over 30 years since any premiership.

We are extremely proud of our young men in the under 18's who have made it here today. The boys have developed in leaps and bounds this year and that is no doubt thanks to coaches, Tim King and Brodie Knight.  They have done a fantastic job getting the most out of our boys as well as getting the team to bond extremely well and have moral super high. For the past decade or so our unders have struggled to win one game each year so it's so pleasing for the club to have the boys here to have a crack at bursting down the 41 year dam wall since our previous under age flag! All the best boys!

Today also marks 34 years since a reserves side has tasted premiership success.  The boys are coming off a superb performance after last weekends great win over Wynyard and they will be using that confidence today to help get them over the line today, but the boys know four solid quarter of footy will need to be played!

The club certainly wouldn't be here today without the massive off field/ behind the scenes going ons. We can't thank all of our volunteers enough. Our gate keepers, ball boys, canteen and kitchen staff, match day managers, bar staff, our sponsorship team, members, life members , sponsors and of course all of our great supporters. Without these people, we simply wouldn't exist,  so thanks to all!

Congratulations to Dylan Smith on winning the Baldock Medal,  Matt Elliot on his second place and our two champions , Jacob Brown and Jack Templeton on their equal third place ! As well as our very own Kallum Paul on his league Best and Fairest win ,in taking home the Billy Fielding medal!

Tomorrow from midday all are invited along to the clubrooms as we will holding our best and Fairest vote counts for all four teams. The bar will certainly be open and the BBQ will be cooking. Come on down for a well earnt end of season beer or two !

Our Annual dinner and awards presentation is on October 14,  Bianca, Muzza and Toby are still taking bookings,  so please see them to book your seat!

Club Notes - Finals Week 3

Today is a big day for us here at East Devonport with our reserves side looking to book a berth in next week's grand final against Latrobe.  Today's task against Wynyard certainly will be tough but our club will be backing the side in for victory. Last weeks semi final against Latrobe was a real battle in wet , slippery and muddy conditions. Our boys held the lead for the majority of the day with Latrobe kicking two late goals to get back into the game that eventually ended up in a draw with extra time being called. Players such as Fletcher Looney, Josh Kaine,  Damon Overton , Jesse Purton and Sparra Crawford all gave 110%. All the best for today boys.

Our seniors finished up for the season last week in a disappointing loss against the demons as they just proved too good in the wet. We thank all our men for a great year that unfortunately ended too soon.

Our Lady Two Blues unfortunately lost their Grand final to the demons also in wet conditions. The girls were heart broken considering they only lost one game all year. But for a team with 90% of the players not having played a game before we were very proud of your efforts. No doubt next year they will be better again !

Next week our under 18 boys will be playing off in a grand final !!! This is absolutely sensational! Our boys have to date had a great year and they will be hungry to get victory! It has been a very long 41 years since our unders have won any silverware, so we are very excited about the opportunity they have ! We hope and encourage all Penguins supporters and members to get along to Latrobe next week and cheer extra loud for our young men !

Our annual dinner and awards presentation is fast approaching on October 14. Who will our best club person be? Who will win can bar goal of the year? Who will win tool of the year? We have plenty of great nominations! To book your seats please see Bianca Clayton, Muzza or Toby Ray. Brant Maloney will be the mc for the evening so it is guaranteed to be a great night out !

Club Notes - Finals Week 2

Last weekend seen our club get three out of four wins in the first week of finals with our girls progressing to this weekends grand final against Latrobe! Our under 18's grabbed a strong win over latrobe to progress to today's 2nd semi against Wynyard and our reserves grabbing a heart stopping win over Wynyard to put them into the 2nd semi final against Latrobe. The senior group went down to a much stronger Ulverstone team who on the day were much better.

This weekend again is massive for a club with four teams still in finals. We again find ourselves back at Pirtek Park for an unplanned return! Our reserves will be looking to get their ticket into this years grand final if they can get over the line today, a loss will see them play off in next week's preliminary final at east Devonport. Coach Nick Rolls again this week had the tough decisions of who will make the team as we at the moment have plenty of depth. Senior coach Peter Templeton also had the same good problem with the tough task of naming his best team with some great performances last weekend in the reserves team.

Two of this year's surprise packets have been the under 18's and their fantastic season and our newly created women's team. The girls have been a great addition to the two blues family and only losing one game for the year and now into the grand final is an absolute pleasure to see and all involved should be extremely proud,  the club certainly is! So all the best girls! The under 18's will be keen to book their spot in this years grand final should they win and with our young men showing plenty of heart and commitment they should give minor premiers Wynyard a real shake!

Congratulations to senior player Ben Hardy and his partner Mel on the safe arrival of their third child Mia Belle Hardy, no doubt she will be a future Two Blue star with a hounding left foot like her father!

Don't forget if you would like to attend this years Meadcon Baldock Medal,  please see Toby a Ray to book your ticket!

All the best to all teams over the weekend!

Club Notes - Finals Week 1

The Business end of the year has arrived and it is absolutely fantastic to see our little club with four teams in finals, including the women in their first year of joining the competition after finishing on top of the ladder!  The girls will battle the Giants today after the senior men for a spot in the Grand Final against the winner of the Latrobe and Ulverstone game that will be played tomorrow at Latrobe with the women grand final being held next weekend September 2 at Wynyard. All the best to our girls!

Our senior game today is set to be a dead set cracker as we take on the Robins. Both teams will be eager to get their finals campaign off to a flyer with a win today, so it is certainly going to be a great contest!

The reserves will have some players return to help bolster the team as they battle with Wynyard today. Coach Nick Rolls will be looking to bounce back today when it matters following their disappointing loss to the robins in the last roster match.

Our under 18's have had a sensational year finishing 2nd on the ladder considering they have struggled to win one game each season alone over the past decade. Coach Tim King has developed his young men in leaps and bounds this year and it's great for our football club to see the future of the club in great shape with many of the team members even playing senior football during stages of the year!

We certainly gave our 112 year old home Pirtek Park its last roster game ever a big send out with a great attendance of passionate Two Blue supporters showing up to help the Two Blues get over the line against the Robins in round 17. Many of the players had never played in front of such a large crowd! The farewell game didn't only just grab the attention of local news reporters such as the Advocate and ABC northern Tasmania, but national also, with Secretary Toby speaking to Melbourne's SEN radio and ABC'S Coodabeen Champions! Local legend Dudley 'Spud' Corbett also featured on ABC TV'S new sports show on Friday night Sideliners, with Spud doing his town extremely proud!

Those who would like to attend this years Meadcon Baldock Medal and Ambassador quest on September 10, can they please see Toby Ray to book their seat. Tickets again at $70pp which includes a 3 course meal and beer and wine. It would be great to have a good Two Blue turnout to help cheer Bianca on!

Our annual dinner this year will be October 14 in the clubrooms. To book your seats, please see Bianca. Tickets are $40pp. Also to be confirmed will be our best and Fairest count! Watch this space!

 Club Notes - Round 18

Today marks a significant day in coastal football as today will be the last time football will be played here at our home ground  Pirtek Park and what better way to send it out than hosting our central coast neighbours in Ulverstone! The robins have been in fantastic form and they will no doubt be hard to beat today if we don't play out 4 quarters of footy. Today is also our last roster game for the year with next weekend being a bye, which our troops will be looking forward to resting up with finals footy starting the week later.

Pirtek Park has been the home of the Two Blues since 1905 and many believe it to be the heart and soul of Penguin.  It is with some trepidation that we will be moving to the new complex at the end of this season and the Central Coast assures us that our new clubrooms will be ready by March 2018.  The reason we say with some trepidation is that we are apprehensive that we will lose the atmosphere, the ambience that is always present at our ground when we move to a much bigger complex.  Also as a lot of people have said the Penguin rec has a lot of our past players DNA buried in the soil and the clubrooms themselves a lot of wonderful memories. So, it will be sad day for quite a few supporters and members to witness the last roster game ever at the ground. Today we have stubbie holders for sale that state I witnessed the last roster game ever at the Penguin Recreation Ground you can purchase these from the bar, canteen or at our merchandise stand!  Obviously, we cant live in the past and the move will happen so let us all celebrate this wonderful oval by turning up today! The Penguin Old Two Blues have organised a function that will start at 11.00 am.  The cost is $30 which includes entry into the game a luncheon and an opportunity to listen to our guest speaker Robert BobbyCheek.  Bobby is a past player at Penguin and Reserves coach he is and ex member of Parliament and owner of the Zap gym complexes. We will have a face painter at the oval from during the day for our younger supporters. At half time in the seniors we will present to the crowd the victorious Penguin mens basketball premiership team who will also assist in running the activities planned for the long break.  These activities will be an accuracy kick where you will need to kick a ball into a bin from around 30 metres.  The first person to do so will win $100 and this will be available to children under 16.A long-distance kick with the longest kick also winning $100.  This is also available to children under 16. After the game, casserole meals will be available at a cost of $5.00 dollars a bowl and at 7.30 music will be provided by DJ from Hobart whose music is supported by video clips and the theme of the evening is PFC through the years.   Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.  Entry is free.

The Penguin Football Club would like thank everyone for coming along today and witnessing this historic event!

We look forward to your support during finals!

 Club Notes - Round 17

Each year the trip to Smithton to take on the Giants is no easy game and today is no different. The Giants are also coming off the back of a great win last week and they will no doubt be considered genuine favourites today too with our current form slump. Pete will certainly be looking forward to having a handful of players return from injury today and over the next couple of weeks as we enter the finals series to help bolster the side.

Last weekend was also a great day for the club with the celebration of our famous 1977 premiership win. All former players and associates returned for what can only be labelled as a successful day with all attending the luncheon having a fantastic time catching up with all that was involved with season 1977.

Our juniors have wrapped up for the season with their last roster games last weekend. It was very much a developing year for the under 14's. After some big losses early, the boys showed massive improvement and really challenged the top teams in the back half of the season. The highlight of the year came in round 12 when the boys knocked off Circular Head to claim their first win for the season, and a one point loss to Latrobe in the final round, while disappointing it showed the passion and commitment the boys had, giving 110% right until the final siren. Coach James King is incredibly proud of the entire under 14 team this year. It was a pleasure for him to coach the boys and watch them grow as footballers and young men. They should be proud of their efforts as well, as should the rest of the Football Club as the future of the Penguin Football Club is something to be excited about. For our under 16's 2017 has been a fairly solid season to date. The boys have worked hard to produce a hard, team orientated brand of footy which has seen them progress to the finals for the first time in their age group. Co Captains, Jake Degroot and Jacko O'Shea have led the way, week in, week out along with consistent midfield contributors in Ben Callaghan,  Adam French, Joe Desantis , Liam Viney and Tim Haberle. Jesse Dennis has been the main contributor to the scorecard for the season and has been well supported by Jordie Smith and our brand of small forwards. Harry Dick, Blair Gregson, Logan Williams and Mitch Walker have held the back half solid, alongside our role players down back. Thanks to everyone for their support so far this season and it would be great to see you there supporting the boys as they start their finals campaign!

Our women will again take to the field today after the senior game. Our girls are doing an excellent job this season currently winning all 6 games played! Tayla Marshall has so far kicked 18 goals for the season and will today be looking to kick a bag to help get the team the four points!

Next week we are back at home at Pirtek Park as we take on the Ulverstone Robins. It will not just be our last game for the home and away roster, but our last ever game at Pirtek Park. We really look forward to seeing you there to help cheer the boys and watch some history take place as footy plays it's last game at the Penguin Recreation Ground ever.

All the best to all teams today,

 Club Notes - Round 16
It sure is great to be back at Pirtek Park after being on the road for some weeks. We send our thanks to Incitec Pivot on being our game day sponsor for the day! Today also marks our second last home game for the year with our next in a fortnight against the Ulverstone Robins that will then be put last roster game for the year!
We welcome the Latrobe Demons here today and no doubt as usual this should be an epic clash! Coach Pete Templeton will be eager for the boys to take home the four points to potentially seal third spot for the year.
Reserves coach Nick Rolls knows the Demons are always a tough team to come up against and will really be expecting his troops to put in a four quarter effort.
Congratulations to under 16 Liam Viney on his senior debut last weekend against the Devonport Football Club. Liam played a great game that included a goal and a spot in the best players! The future sure looks good with our youth that is coming through! Jesse French again kicked a bag of 6 goals last weekend in the under 18's win against Devonport following on from his 7 goals the week prior! Keep up the good work Jesse!
Our Lady Two Blues today will be keen to continue their winning form as they are still unbeaten for the year!
Today in the Clubrooms also is our 1977 Premiership reunion! I Terry Owens has done a fantastic job organising it basically getting every player back for the day! The players will be introduced on the ground prior to the senior game as well as conducting the coin toss! We hope everyone has a good day at the footy!

All the best to all teams today,

 Club Notes - Round 15

Following on from our very dismal game against the very dominant Wynyard last weekend, our senior group will be looking to turn things around in a big way today against Devonport if they are to take away the four points. Wynyard proved they are certainly the top team with their convincing win. Our reserves will be looking also to get back onto the winners list after going down by 4 points against the cats. Players such as Sparra Crawford, Joshua Kaine, Rohan Speglic, Keenan Slater and Daniel Baldock leading the way as well as the illusive Timmy Gee as he returned for his first game for the year! Our under 18's grabbed a brilliant win again last weekend against the cats who going into the game were undefeated for the year which now gives our young men much confidence as we move into the pointy end of the year. Jesse French bagged a superb 7 goal haul and was supported by some fantastic ball movement provided by Liam Viney and such players as the consistent Thomas Bath, Lachlan McKellar, Jordan Wood and Kallum Paul.

Today our lady Two Blues will be back on the field after 3 weeks off. The girls have been training hard and No doubt they will be freshened up and be hungry to chalk together some good footy and continue in their winning way!

Next weekend will will finally be back at home at Pirtek Park after a long 6 weeks since our last home game. We will be hosting the Latrobe Football Club in what is always a fantasic contest. It will also be our second last home game for the year so we really look forward to your attendance and help cheer us over the line. Also this game will coincide with our 1977 premiership 40 year reunion luncheon that will be held in the clubrooms. Limited seating is still available, you can purchase your tickets by contacting event organiser Terry Owens on 0418141815.

After today's game, our clubrooms will be open with your favourite refreshments available as well as hot pies and the footy on the TV.

 Club Notes - Round 14

Today's senior game against the cats will certainly be an interesting clash with the cats proving to be one of the better sides this year, we will be able to measure where we are at form wise as we move into the tail end of the home and away roster. Coach Peter Templeton again last week continued to blood under 18's into the senior team with Blake Miller making his debut against the Swans with a solid effort to go with it. Jacob Brown last week played no doubt his best game to date with a stellar performance, with assistant coach Andy Lee, Chris McDonald and Kyle Harman also putting in solid games. Dylan Bramich last week also put in 8 quarters of footy doubling up from the under 18's to the reserves and kicked a bag of 9 goals in the reserve game to go with it, thanks to Thomas Bath and Julian Brown for also doubling up!

Our 1977 40 year premiership reunion is fast approaching. We have limited seating still available for the function to be held in the clubrooms on July 29 when the take on the Latrobe Demons at home. To purchase your tickets please contact Terry Owens on 0418141815 or Dudley Corbett on 0428335823. It should be a great afternoon out with all of the former players from the premiership attending!

Trivia night last weekend was a successful evening with a great time had by all, thanks to all that attended including our host Rodney Adams! Bianca's next function, Through the years dress up functio  will be held after our last roster game ever at Pirtek Park on August 12 when we take on the Ulverstone Robins. Come dressed up in any old Two Blue paraphernalia you may have to celebrate to time we have spent at Pirtek Park over the years prior to our move next year to the state of the art Dial Regional Sports Complex Twin Ovals!

Following today's senior game, the clubrooms at Penguin will be open for anyone that might want a refreshment and catch the footy on the TV and sample a meat pie or two from our newly installed pie heater behind the bar!

 Club Notes - Round 13

Today we travel over to East Devonport fresh off our bye to take on the swans. The seniors and reserves will be looking to bounce back on to the winners list following some disappointing losses to the robins. The seniors finished off with an impressive last quarter but it just wasn't enough as the robins did enough damage in the third term. Under 18 Sam Mitchell certainly impressed in his senior debut and a nice goal to go with it. The future certainly looks bright at Two Blue land as coach Pete Templeton this year has been giving plenty of the under 18's plenty of game time each week as the boys come in and out of the team. The under 18's are currently travelling very nice this year, sitting third on the ladder with 6 wins, (a great achievement as previous years we have been sitting on the bottom) and today will be again looking to grab another win following on from their dominant win over the robins with such players as Thomas Bath Tub, Jesse French, Nick Bellin, Lachlan Shea and Liam Viney all showing off plenty of class.

Our Lady Two Blues this year in the inaugural women's comp have been training super hard and it's been paying off with the girls currently undefeated after 4 games. The girls certainly won't be slowing down as they are hungry for more wins and to do our club proud. The women have no doubt been a great addition to our club and we look forward to seeing them progress each week under the watchful and knowledgeable eye of coach Bruce Howard.

The Under 14's had a tough task taking on the undefeated ladder leaders in Ulverstone a fortnight ago. After a tough first 3 quarters the boys fought hard in the last quarter and minimised Ulverstone's influence on the game. Kynan O'Rourke and Lukas Burns were solid all day in defence. Joel Hancock's tackling and attack on the ball in the midfield was first class while Dalton Stretton won plenty of the ball despite a lot of attention from the opposition. With several players unavailable we thank Under 12 players Braxton Walker and Harry Dutton for filling in and also thank the Ulverstone team for lending us 3 players. The final scores were Penguin 0.2-2 to Ulverstone 13.17-95.

Bianca hosted our Two Blues masquerade club ball and it's fair to say it was a brilliant night with a fantasic turn up. Bianca and her team did an absolute fantasic job organising this event as well as setting up the clubrooms. Her next function, Trivia night, will be held tonight at 7pm in the clubrooms. Bring a team of 8, cost is $5 per person and with a host by the Name of super trainer Rodney Bumbler Adams it is sure to be an entertaining evening filled with laughs!

All the best to all teams today,

 Club Notes - Round 11

Today's round 11 hit out against our neighbours Ulverstone will no doubt see some fantastic games across the board as these cross town clashes are always a thrilling contest. Last time we met on ANZAC day the Ulverstone seniors stamped their dominance against us as they really proved that they are a top of the ladder team with a massive win. Our boys will be looking to turn that around today and try and match the robins in all areas of the ground. Last week we welcomed forward Chris McDonald back into the side after several weeks off and proved he hadn't lost his kicking boots booting 6 goals as well as our best on ground Andy Lee kicking 7. It was already great to have Finbar Wray-McCann back in the side also. Last week in the reserves we also had some players trade their two blue stripes for black and white in aid to give Devonport enough numbers to field a team to be able to play a game. Our boys ended up with a convincing win and we thank those boys that traded sides! Our unders again notched up a nice win with some great performances from Lachlan Shea, Thomas Bath, Sam Mitchell and Dylan Bramich. The boys will no doubt be looking forward to today's challenge against the robins and continuing their winning style. Our women again grabbed a great win, that currently puts them undefeated for the year and they will certainly be hungry to get the four points today against the Ulverstone ladies.

It's never too late to become a Two Blue member, simply see Andrew Cure, Brian Lane or Dudley Corbett and be part of your local club.

Tonight Bianca will be holding the Two Blues Masquerade Club Ball in the clubrooms starting at 7PM.  She still has tickets available, it is guaranteed to be a sensational evening with live music provided by Dylan Boys, Ella Rose and Michael Bilge. We hope you can make it.

After today's match we will be on the road another 3 more times before appearing back at Pirtek Park on July 29 against the Latrobe Demons. We hope you can make it to our away games and cheer the boys on to finish the second half on the home and away season on winning ways!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS TODAY,

As always,

 Club Notes - Round 10

Welcome all and the Devonport Football Club back to Pirtek Park today for our round 10 hit out. We today would like to make a special welcome to our very important, generous sponsors as well as our valued life members as today we say thanks to them for being apart of the club in our annual luncheon in the clubrooms. As you would all know without sponsors we simply wouldn't exist, so we appreciate them for being apart of our club.

Last weekends rest will have both sides today eager to get out onto Pirtek Park and battle hard for the 4 points. The senior side will certainly be again looking to continue their winning form with their previous two games being wins and some great contested form to go with it, with all in the team doing their bit, as well as Brad Green who against the Giants displayed his best game as a Two Blue to date, that also seen him awarded with the sea FM young player of the week award. Congratulations Brad. With the seniors in some good form it will make the reserves boys work hard to earn a place in the senior side. Rollsy and his reserves team were also back on the winners list along with the under 18's in their big win against the giants and the women's team tasting victory in their first game on Pirtek Park. Tayla Marshall again showed of her brilliant long distance goal kicking, strong marking and a bag full to go with it !

Thanks to all the ladies that showed up to make our 5th annual Pink day another successful one. Bianca along with her helpers did a fantastic job organising the day, with all the ladies that attended the pink function having a great afternoon out.

Next weekend we make the trip over to Ulverstone to take on the top of the table Robins. Our boys will be looking to turn around their dismal form following on from our last clash together on ANZAC day where the robins had an impressive win! After the game we have our Two Blues masquerade ball in the clubrooms starting at 7 30pm. Tickets are essential, so if you haven't got some yet, see Bianca. The will be live music from Ella Rose, Dylan Boys and Michael Bilge.

After today we only have two more home games left for the year at Pirtek Park (and forever) so make sure you pencil them in (July 29 and August 12) as they will both be blockbuster games against Latrobe and Ulverstone football clubs.

All the best to all teams today

 Club Notes - Round 9

Welcome everyone, and the Circular Head Giants, back to Pirtek Park! We are now at the halfway point of the home and away roster for season 2017 and it only seems as though we just got under way for the year!

Today Pirtek Park will turn pink as we do so every year in support of North West Breast Cancer Nurses
and Patients to help raise valuable funds to ensure they can operate and care for those that are unfortunately sick. In the clubrooms we are holding a Ladies Luncheon with guest speaker Tracey Beattie as well as games and raffles. As you can see our Senior group as always have traded the Two Blue stripes for pink and our other teams wearing pinks socks. This is always a fantastic day for all and if you can spare a few dollars to help support them that would be great! There will be raffles during the game and auctions after the game in the clubrooms.

Last weekends game against Latrobe was certainly a confidence gaining win for the playing group with no doubt some average games in prior weeks. Dylan Chell played an outstanding game in the ruck and was awarded a nomination for the SeaFM Young Player of the Year Award. Brodie Knight played a fabulous game in defence including a goal and a fantastic celebration to go with it! Captain Jack Templeton again played superb along with Jason Radford and Randall Hardy. The Reserves fought out hard in the last quarter to try to clinch a win but couldn't quite get the job done and the Under 18s went down also. It was extremely great to finally see our women play their first ever game too and even better getting a win against the Demons in slippery, cold conditions. Kirby Randall was named best on ground for her efforts including some fierce tackling! Georgia Eade showed us that she is certainly going to be a very valuable component of the team this year and Tayla Marshall showed of her brilliant long distance goal kicking!

A big congratulations to Jason Radford who today will play his 100th senior game for the club. Jason over his time at the club has been a key player to the team with his brilliant defence and ruck skills! We certainly look forward to the next 100! We all send our best wishes to Rohan Baldock for a speedy full recovery following his horrible broken arm suffered in the Rep game. Next week we will take the weekend off for the long weekend and will return to Pirtek Park on June 17 for our clash against Devonport. We look forward to seeing you again then.

Good luck to all teams today. Only 3 home games to go!

 Club Notes - Round 8

Today sees us travel over to Latrobe to take on the demons, which is always certainly a hot game. Almost like the AFL no game is easy this year with an even spread of talent throughout all teams in the NWFL. Today is the first time we return to Latrobe  following last year's grand final. The seniors will be looking to bounce back from our loss to Wynyard at home where the cats proved to be too good in the last term to grab victory. Following last week's representative game, the boys have had a weekend off and should be full of energy and willing to prove that we are going to be competitive going into the second half of the season.  The reserves fought out a nice win against Wynyard with some class skills shown off by Nathan Russell, Damon Overton, Scotty Hennessey and Michael Edwards-Gray. Coach Nick Rolls will be looking for a repeat effort today to get another win on the board.

Bianca held her function minute to win it in the clubrooms following the Wynyard game. It was certainly a great night full of laughs and good times with all that attended including the host Cameron Windram having a great evening! Thanks to those that showed up to make it what it was.

We have plenty of upcoming events at the Penguin Football Club. Be sure to save the dates, they include, next week at Pirtek Park, our annual pink day match as we take on the Circular Head Giants. We will be having a ladies luncheon also in the clubrooms, for more details see Bianca. Our Sponsors luncheon will be held on June 17 in the clubrooms, The Penguin Football Club Ball will be held on June 24, Trivia night July 8, 1977 Premiership reunion July 29 and Penguins got talent on August 12, this will also be our last ever home game at Pirtek Park when we take on cross town traditional rival the Ulverstone Football Club as we will be relocating to the Dial Regional Sports Complex Twin Ovals next season. More details to come for all events.

Don't forget, club memberships are available from as little as $30 and it's never too late to join up and be come a proud financial member of the Penguin Football Club.

All the best to our teams today.

 Get Well Doc
All of our best wishes go to playing assistant coach Rohan Baldock following what can only be described as a horrific injury sustained on Saturday during the rep game in terrible conditions.
Rohan broke both bones in his arm and yesterday finally went under the knife for a marathon 9.5 hours. Things didn't go to plan during surgery as the breaks were worse than first thought.
Fingers crossed Rohan will be able to leave hospital tomorrow to relax and recover at home with his... family.
We certainly hope Rohan has a speedy and pleasant recovery back to being 100%
Please feel free to leave your messages of support below for Rohan, we will ensure they are passed on.
Get well soon Doc.

 Club Notes - Round 7
Today's games against the Wynyard Cats at Pirtek Park again will no doubt be a tough battle as it's obvious this year is the most even the competition has been in recent years which is fantastic for the NWFL and supporters alike.

Last weeks encounter with the East Devonport Swans was certainly hard work and with wet conditions the boys certainly had to work hard to get over the line with a win! Was nice to have Rohan Baldock back in the team and bagging 5 goals, Randall Hardy and Jack Eastley certainly worked hard all day in the back line and James King justified his spot back in the senior team. The reserves also had a task of getting a win with rain and strong wind not making it easy. The team was lead well with the experience of Hollywood Carpenter and Sparra Crawford using their wet weather knowledge well with Keenan Slater, Nick Rolls and Dylan Chell also being standout players. The under 18's were short on numbers leading up to the game with under 16 players Ben Callaghan and Liam Viney getting called up at the last minute to pull the guernsey on. They certainly showed they are going to be stand out players in the future for our club with best on ground efforts helping the team out to grab victory with three goals in the last two minutes!

If you need some extra Two Blue apparel, Darren Emmerton has a merchandise stand setup in front of the secretarys office with a wide range of items from coffee mugs to club polos and jumpers. Pop over and say g'day and maybe even purchase something for mum for mothers day!

We have been saying this almost every week but memberships are available to purchase today from $30. We really encourage you to join up and be apart of your home club and having the opportunity to win our members raffle drawn each Thursday night in the clubrooms following training after teas.

Some players are yet to have a sponsor also, if you are interested in helping some out, please see Paul Murray or President Brian Lane.

Tonight, Bianca will be holding her second function for the year in the clubrooms, 'minute to win it'. Reserves goal sneak Cameron Windram will be hosting it and it's guaranteed to be a great evening full of laughs and knowledge overloads!

Happy Mothers Day to all the beautiful mums out there and as always GO TWO BLUES!

 Club Notes - Round 6

We would like to send a warm welcome to everyone here today at Pirtek Park as we take on the East Devonport Swans. The Swans certainly have what it takes to get a win today and if our team aren't at 100% they will walk away with the four points. But following our dismal effort in ANZAC day the boys will be eager to bounce back with a win today.

A big thanks to all that showed up on ANZAC day in our annual blockbuster game against cross town rival Ulverstone. It was a fantastic turnout by all with almost perfect weather for footy. The result didn't go our way in the end for our senior team but it looked like all had a great day out.

If you haven't signed up as a member yet, it certainly isn't too late! Memberships can be purchased today from our merchandise stand in front of the secretary's office from as little as $30 or simply see Andrew Cure. We have an aim of signing up a record amount of members this year and we would really love to have you on board.

We also have some players yet to have a player sponsor. If you are interested in sponsoring a player, please see president Brian Lane or Paul 'Muzza' Murray.

Thanks to Carpets Central for jumping on board as our match day sponsor for our ANZAC day game to Ulverstone, we really appreciate their on going support, for all your carpet needs go see them at 2 Export Dr Ulverstone.

Also we are absolutely thrilled to have another major sponsor commit for season 2017 in AJ and M Construction. We look forward to working closely with them for years to come. If you're planning on any commercial construction whether it be Structural, Civil, Concreting, or Domestic give AJ Croome a call on 0408 568 235.

Please stick around after today's game wraps up for a refreshment with our players, coaches, sponsors and members. We will have the footy on the new big TV for the evening and pizzas will be ordered from sponsor El Perro.

We look forward to seeing you back here at Pirtek Park next week again cheering the boys on as we take on the Wynyard Cats for what is sure to be a great battle.

 Club Notes - Round 4

Welcome along to our annual Anzac Day clash against Central Coast rivals Ulverstone. It is an honour to host an occasion such as this as we remember all those that have fought and died so that we can live freely in the most beautiful part of the world.

Last weekend was a great one for the Two Blues with three strong wins against Devonport. The Seniors bounced back after their loss against Wynyard with a convincing 54-point win over the Magpies. Andrew Lee dominated in the air and Jacob Brown dominated on the ground, both kicking three goals. It was very exciting to see our four debutants, Fletcher Looney, Dylan Chell, Fraser Eaton and Jay Van Essen, have an impact on the game, with Fraser and Jay even managing to snag a goal each. Young gun David Scarffe was also very impressive in his 3rd game, kicking a goal as well.

The Reserves dominated all day to win by 179-points. Curtis Williams played well on his return, but not quite as good as the results suggested. He was marked down for a 6-goal haul when in fact it was Cameron “Dogsy” Windram who kicked 6. Reports are Cameron is furious after he wasn't contacted by the Advocate for a correction article and he has claimed he will kick another bag today to prove it was in fact him.

The Under 18’s bounced back strongly with a 52-point win last week. Jesse French played well and kicked four goals with Kallum Paul again dominating around the ground, he kicked two goals. Ben Callaghan, and several other players, again made the jump up to Under 18’s from the Under 16’s and seemed to fit right in as he was named among the best.

Ulverstone are always a tough team to come up against and coming off a win against Wynyard we will need to be at our best to beat them. With the bye next weekend it will be good to head into the week off on a winning note. Good luck to all three teams.

Today's home game sponsor is Carpets Central, located in Export Drive in Ulverstone. Peter and Dianne have been very loyal sponsors of the Two Blues over many years. We hope that Peter, Dianne and their mates enjoy what should be a great game of footy.

 Club Notes - Round 3

After a disappointing loss under lights against a much improved Wynyard last week
the Seniors will be looking for a strong response today against Devonport. Today’s
game will be a tough one though with Devonport recruiting well, as well as their
youngsters continuing to improve, allowing them to get a 3-point win against
reigning premiers Latrobe last week. Last week it was left to too few to do too much
in the greasy conditions and today we will look for a more rounded team effort.

The Reserves notched up their first win for the year last week with a spirited fight
back against Wynyard. New recruits Rhys Johns and Fletcher Looney played well down
back while Mitch Stanley dominated the middle and will push for Senior selection
today. The Under 18’s had a tough day at the office after several players pulled out
Saturday morning and the team was topped up with Under 16’s. Hopefully with more
available today they can push for a second win against Devonport.

2017 memberships are available for only $30 by seeing Andrew Cure or contacting him
on 0418 140 380. Sponsorship packages are available also, contact Paul 'Muzza'

Next round we take on Central Coast rivals Ulverstone at home in our annual Anzac
Day clash on Tuesday 25th. This will be sponsored by Carpets Central located in
Export Drive Ulverstone. Peter & Dianne have been very loyal sponsors and
supporters for many years so make sure you call in if you're looking for carpet,
vinyl, rugs or timber flooring.

Good luck to all three sides today.

 Club Notes - Round 2

Last Saturday's win over the 2016 Premiers was a great start to the year and left the whole of the football club with a good feeling about the year to come. There is no doubt tonight's game will again be a serious test for our boys as we know the Cats have regained some of their champion players from recent years to bolster their team.

Last weeks win did see a fantastic team effort, but some of our new players including Assistant Coaches Andy Lee and Rohan Baldock made it obvious their presence up forward will certainly be something to look forward to seeing each week! Recruit David Scarffe showed off his talent and added two goals also, Dylan Bramich proved that his hard pre season has paid off with an absolute brilliant Senior debut game
and Will Huxtable proved that he has talent to burn with an outstanding performance down back complemented by the Hardy boys and Finbar! Toby Skene didn't stop giving 100% all day keeping one of the best players in the league in Josh Holland on a short leash.

The Under 18's also got their season off to a flyer with a superb 19 point win to give the young men a truck load of confidence. They look to have a successful season as in recent years they haven't managed to get many wins.

The Reserves will be looking to bounce back today following their loss to Latrobe, they gave it everything they had in the last quarter but couldn't quite get the job done. Nathan Russell showed off his flashy talent with Nick Rolls showing off to the crowd how good he can kick a torpedo and goal!

Don't forget 2017 memberships are available. This year we have a serious aim to have a record number of people signed up as members, so if you haven't signed up make sure you see Andrew Cure or give him a call on 0418 140 380 and be part of something special for only $30. Sponsorship packages are available also, contact Paul 'Muzza' Murray for more information at
murraydes32@gmail.com.

Thursday night teas are back for the season from 7:30pm. All members, supporters and sponsors are more than welcome to head down to the clubrooms on Thursday's, watch the boys train and have a great meal cooked by our lovely ladies for $10 with the bar open also!

Bianca's first function for the year was a great evening last Saturday night with Matt and CJ playing many great tunes into the evening! Bianca's next function is May 6 in the clubrooms themed 'Vinnies Kits'! So get your best worst kit organised for that one, as there will be prizes for best dressed. Entry is $5! More details to follow!

Next weekend we are away again as we take on Devonport, we would love to see plenty of support from all of our members, supporters and sponsors to cheer the boys on! Also don't forget our next home game is on ANZAC day as we battle with Ulverstone in our traditional ANZAC day clash, that is one not to miss! Casserole teas will be available post match for $5.

 Club Notes - Round 1

Welcome everyone back to Pirtek Park for our Round 1 battle against Latrobe. It is great to see so many members, sponsors and supporters here today. This year we are aiming to have a record amount of members signed up, Andrew Cure has taken on the membership Coordination role along side Dudley Corbett, so if you haven't already signed up, catch up with them today at the game and be apart of something special!

Last year's grand final loss seems like a distant memory now as the boys have put in a big pre-season over summer. Pete has recruited well, picking up such players as goal kicking sensation Rohan Baldock, former AFL and state league player Andrew Lee, Kyle Harman, Brad Green and Will Huxtable. Rohan and Andrew will also be assistant coaches under Pete. Rodney King and Jack Templeton will captain our seniors with Jacob Brown and Finbar Wray-Mccann being their vices.

We also have a new President this year, former player and coach Brian Lane. Brian brings a wealth of knowledge to the club and is working extremely hard on such things as sponsorship, membership and getting old players back to games. Darren Emmerton is our vice president, Emily Young our Treasurer and Toby Ray remains Secretary.

We would like to also thank our new and existing sponsors as well as our new major sponsor Derek Gee Installations. We really look forward to continuing to work with Derek over the coming years.

Another exciting thing happening around our football club over the summer is the emergence of new women's football team. A lightning premiership style day was held in march that was a real success as the girls got their first taste of the game. A roster for this year's competition is still in draft and should be released in the coming weeks. Tracy Thomas-Turnbull has done a fantastic job coordinating the girls as well as running training sessions prior to appointing our coach Bruce Howard. Ashleigh Shotton has been named our inaugural captain with Lila Wijesingha-Fromader vice. Make sure you hang around following our senior game as the girls will be playing a practice match against Latrobe.

Also our new ambassador Bianca Clayton, partner of reserves coach Nick Rolls will be holding her first function for the year in the VIE financial clubrooms kicking off from 7:30pm. Matt and CJ will be playing some great tunes for you to dance the night away to! Entry is $10.

Today our teams will be wearing black arm bands in respect of the recent passing of club Patron, Wes Thow. Wes was greatly respected by our players and club as a whole and will certainly be missed.

All the best to our teams today.

 Vale Wes Thow
The Penguin Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of current Patron, Life member, sponsor, legend and icon of the PFC, Wes Thow. We send our deepest and sincere condolences to all the family of Wes. He will certainly be missed.

Here are some words from senior coach, Peter Templeton.

I write this with a very heavy heart. Yesterday we lost an absolute icon at out football club. Wes Thow was one of the most genuine people that I have ever met, his ability to talk to all members of out football club was unique, it didn't matter whether you were the youngest or the eldest, the best or the worst, Wes still found time to talk to everyone.

Icon, legend and champion are terms sometimes loosely used but Wes was all of these. His willingness to follow the youth of the club was unwavering, supporting those kids through thick and thin his support of the football club in general was second to none. His generosity was appreciated by all and sundry, whether it be oranges for the unders or cash incentives for the players on the day, he was always there.

I met Wes when I came over to the club and I can honestly say that from that time I can't explain how important he was to our footy club. I for one have been enriched by that meeting and it breaks my heart that we couldn't get what he was desperately seeking but then would say the boys gave their all and we will get it next year.

Wes was a highly respected and much loved by all. Kind, honest, loyal and generous supporter of the Two Blues and to be honest footy won't be the same without him there.

To Wes's family, pleas accept our deepest condolences from my family, the coaching staff, playing group, committee, sponsors, members and supporters. A man of his standing can not be replace.

Love you Wes R.I.P.

Two Blues legend forever.

On 9 March, Wes's daughter, Julie Bloom, left this message on the clubs Facebook site.

I'd just like to let all the footy club know that my dad, Wes Thow, passed away this morning. I would like to thank everyone at the club for the love, respect and honor that you have given to my dad. Especially since my mum passed away, the club, and his boys as he calls them, have given my dad so much joy and something to love and look forward to each week. You were all family to dad and i know he is highly respected within the club. Thank you one and all for giving my wonderful dad so much joy over the years. He will still be here in spirit to cheer his beloved "Two Blues" on. Thank you.

We thank you Julie for those kind words.
